  • What are the benefits of Sports Massage?
Sports Massage can: -Improve circulation. -Improve lymphatic flow, therefore helping the immune system. -Speed the supply of nutrients and the removal of waste products in the body's cells. -Reduce subcutaneous lipids (cellulite) when combined with exercise. -Relax the muscles and the mind. -Invigorate the muscles and the mind. -Restore mobility to soft tissues that have become adhered/stuck. -Decrease muscle tension. -Encourage scar-tissue to lay down in a more useful way. -Increase muscle length. -Increase range of motion in joints. -Reduce mental anxiety and stress.
  • Will it hurt?
It might feel uncomfortable, sometimes a large amount of pressure is needed to get the muscles released and moving again. This is your massage however, and you should feel comfortable to tell me (or any other therapist) if the pressure is too much for you.
  • How much does it cost?
    I charge £35 for 1 hour and £50 for 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • I'm not a professional athlete/performer, will sports massage be useful for me?"
Yes!! Office workers are often some of the people most in need of a sports massage. All that time spent sedentary and unmoving at a desk can lock up the muscles, cause imbalances and give you bad posture. Sports massage can help with all of that.
  • What should I wear? Will I be naked?
You will never be naked. For that matter, how much of the rest of your clothing you remove is totally up to you. However, I recommend that you are treated in your underwear. (You will be covered by towels as well) You should wear underwear that you feel comfortable in, with strong enough elastic that I can securely tuck a towel into. Women: Please wear a bra that undoes at the back, not a sports bra.
  • Do I need to shower beforehand?
    Ideally, yes please.
  • Can I have someone I know come with me?
    Absolutely.
  • How many sessions would you recommend?
That totally depends on you and your goals. Some people like to see me once a week, some fortnightly, some monthly (you get the idea). Personally, if money were no object, I would be going for a sports massage every two weeks in order to maintain that just-ironed-out feeling.
  • What if I feel self-conscious about/unhappy with how my body looks?
I am not here to judge how your body looks. My only aim is to help you move and feel better within your body. Both the locations I treat in are private rooms, and if you want I am happy to step outside whilst you are changing.
  • How long before I can train/perform again?
Immediately, if you wish. If you want a treatment that focuses on recovery and relaxation, then I'd recommend leaving around half a day before training or performing again. Though there are many athletes who use vigorous massage as part of their preparation. I will discuss your goals with you at the beginning of each session.
